Correspondence of Len Lye

Scope and Content

Series principally contains photocopies of correspondence from Len Lye to Graves from c1940 to c1977, discussing Lye's domestic and professional life; also photocopy of Lye's ts foreword, bearing ms note to Graves, to his film 'The Birth of an Age'. The series also contains five original letters to Graves and Beryl Graves: to Graves, dated 27 March 1941; to Graves, beginning "thanks for your poem [...]", with coloured illustrations; to Graves, dated 31 October ny, second two leaves are photocopies; to Robert and Beryl Graves dated 2 August 1944; envelope addressed to Beryl Graves containing fragment of verse from 'Antaeus' no 4 (Winter 1971). There are also two photocopies of obituaries of Len Lye, and a ts letter from John Matthews of the Len Lye Foundation requesting photographs of any works by Lye owned by Robert and Beryl Graves (3 December 1980).
