Archive Collection

Scope and Content

Publications and unpublished documents from University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire and University College Cardiff.

Administrative / Biographical History

The University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire was founded in 1883. The name 'University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire' was legally changed to 'University College Cardiff' in 1972, in order to formally recognise the existence of another University College in South Wales - Swansea, which was founded in 1920. However, the name University College Cardiff had appeared on published material since the early 1960s.

Mainly documents deposited in the University Library during the 20th century, from a wide range of donors including ex-staff and students. Transferred to Special Collections and Archives when founded in 2005.
