George Broadley Howard (1827-1913) was born at Derby on 19 November 1827. He attended schools at Derby and Sedbergh, before entering St John's College, Cambridge, in 1847 (B.A., 1853). He was ordained deacon in 1853, and priest in 1854. Howard was curate of St Barnabas, Kensington, 1853-1856; assistant chaplain in India and Burma, 1856-1864; curate of Baltonsborough, Somerset, 1866-1868; chaplain of St Mary's Home, Stone, Kent, 1868-1870; curate of St Mary's, Hampstead, 1870-1871; chaplain of St Peter's Home, Kilburn, 1872-1875; curate of St James', Tunbridge Wells, 1877-1880; and curate of Beckenham, 1888-1890. He founded the Clergy Friendly Society, and helped to establish the Clergy Pensions Institution. He died at Worthing on 29 January 1913.
