It is difficult to date this item. Upgrading of the Southern General Hospital's facilities, in the form of a multiplicity of medium–sized projects, began in the 1950s and was capped with the opening of a new Maternity Unit in 1970 and the completion of the Institute of Neurological Sciences in 1972. It is likely that this Institute of Neurological Sciences was the "modern psychiatric institute" referred to in the circular. This may also have been used for publicity or a press release.
