Administrative / Biographical History
James McLennan and William Urquhart were operating the Dalkeith Brewery , Dalkeith, Scotland , from at least 1867 . McLennan & Urquhart Ltd was registered in 1909 as a limited liability company to acquire the business of the same name. A bottling plant was opened in 1921 and the company took over William Burnett , bottlers, Burntisland, Fife, Scotland , in 1932 and David Cameron Ltd , brewers, Laurencekirk, Grampian, Scotland , in 1945 . It was acquired by John Aitchison & Co Ltd , brewers, Edinburgh, Scotland , in December 1955 . Brewing continued until 1958 when all beer production transferred to Edinburgh although bottling did not cease until 1961 .

The collection was previously stored with the rest of the Scottish Brewing Archive at Heriot-Watt University. It moved to the University of Glasgow in 1991. Custody of the Scottish Brewing Archive was transferred to Glasgow University Archive Services in 2008.
