Administrative / Biographical History

James Parker-Smith (1854-1929 ) of Jordonhill, Glasgow, Scotland, was born in London. He was educated at Winchester and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he gained his Master of Arts degree and later became a Fellow. He was the Director of the Union Bank of Scotland and was made the Warden of Winchester College, a post he occupied from  1915-1920 . Parker-Smith held the position of Parliamentary Private Secretary to Joseph Austen Chamberlain (1900-1903 ), and was the MP for the Partick Division of Lanarkshire (1890-1906 ). His published works include: The causes of the Union with Ireland (1887) and Preferential voting: the transfer of superfluous votes (1884).
