Administrative / Biographical History

The Ty'n-y-braich estate lies about one mile from Dinas Mawddwy and included Maesglasau and Bryncyrch in the parish of Llangadfan, Montgomeryshire. Evan John William and his wife, Gwen Robert, had a son, Robert Evan (d. 1775), who owing to financial difficulties was forced to mortgage the estates in 1731 and in 1741. He was succeeded by his son, Robert Evan the younger (d. 1812). Maesglasau and other properties which had been mortgaged in 1765 were conveyed in 1839 for £1,440 and reconveyed again to Sir Edmund Buckley of Plas Dinas Mawddwy in 1883. Sir Edmund Buckley (b. 1834) also purchased the estate and lordship of Dinas Mawddwy in 1856 from the Mytton family, in whose possession it had been since the time of King John.
