The account book is written in the hand of Emma Ride, the wife of Jabez Ride, blacksmith at theSmithy, Mugginton, Derbyshire. A 1916 trade directory records a William Ride as blacksmith atMugginton, Jabez Ride is recorded in that role in a directory for 1941. He retired from the businesssoon after and moved to Hulland Ward, Derbyshire.
