Scope and Content

The papers include a bound album containing plates of original drawings made by Salter for his paper 'Zur naheren Kenntniss der Starkekorner', along with a folder containing handwritten text and plates by Salter, entitled 'Studies of lichens', related to his studies of lichens undertaken at the suggestion of Professor Arthur Meyer of Marburg.

Administrative / Biographical History

John H Salter was a lecturer in botany at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth from 1894 to 1899. He then became Professor of Botany within the same department, holding the chair until 1903.
