Scope and Content

The series is divided up into six subseries as follows:

P12/1/A: Composite Registers and Registers of Baptisms

P12/1/B: Registers of Marriages

P12/1/C: Registers of Burials

P12/1/D: Registers of Banns

P12/1/F: Registers of Services

P12/1/G: Registers of Public Graves and other miscellaneous registration records

There are significant gaps in the registers, notably in baptismal entries from 1560 to 1598/9, in baptisms from 1784 to 1792, and burials from 1784 to 1797. Early entries in the register, 1796–1812 [P12/1/A/3] are described as 'copied from the papers of Rev. J. Ray' who was vicar from 1776 to his burial on 5 September 1803, and who appears to have been responsible for the poor standard of register-keeping during his incumbency.
