Scope and Content

Written from Brizlee, Wooler, Northumberland

Thinks his estimate of Maurice Gregory just. The title of 'Liberty Justice and morality in Germany' would be ridiculous, and a most untrue one. For these three things are decidedly wanting in Germany, it would seem at present. It will need a great upheaval politically and in other ways to make German soil a promising one in which to sow the seed of our principles'. Maurice Gregory is now working in Ireland and she has given him an introduction to her brother, Charles, Grey, 'an old and staunch abolitionist'. 'It is bitterly cold here'.
