Written from Vico Calascione, Naples. Thinks his son is getting on very well with the business of the church of Grindelwald. Approves of F. Morshead being on the Committee as he is a first rate mountaineer which will help them wit the Alpine Club. He has been laid up with an 'intermittent fever' but after four days in bed is now sitting up [see letter of 26 Mar from JB]. Just written to congratulate Mr Stansfeld on his appointment to the Local Government Board (see note)

28 Mar 1886. 'I have just written to Mr Stansfeld to congratulate him on his appointment to the Local Govt Board - Vice Chamberlain.' Gladstone's 3rd cabinet was formed Feb 1886 with J Chamberlain as President of the Local Government Board. Apr 1886 Chamberlain resigned and was succeeded by J Stansfeld.
