6 May  'I have asked Mr Scott not to have any very definite resolutions passed on the 12th about the Federation.' This would be Mr Benjamin Scott, Chamberlain of the City of London and Secretary for the Committee for Repeal which the City of London founded in 1877. His pamphlet entitled 'six years of labour and sorrow' 1885, depicted his own six years of struggle to get the Criminal Law Amendment Bill made law. (It was passed by the House of Lords but was always talked out in the House of Commons till 1885).'I saw the death of dear old Mr McLaren.'
