Administrative / Biographical History
Date: Rev George was resident at Oxford after his marriage from 1852-1857, occupying the post of Examiner to the Univ of Oxford. Owing to the bad effect of the Oxford climate on his wife he felt bound to move to a drier and more salubrious town, and therefore 1855 is a likely date for an application for a post elsewhere
Letter written from address of 'Admiralty'
'In Mar 1855 Lord Palmerston, who had been Foreign Minister while Peel was in the diplomatic service, appointed him a junior lord of the admiralty' (DNB)
'In Jul 1856 he acted as Secretary to Lord Granville's special mission to Russia at the coronation of Alexander II' (DNB)
This confirms most likely date for Peel's letter to be 1855
Biog: Sir Robert Peel (3rd Bart) (1822-1895)
