Scope and Content

Photocopy of letter. Written from Galewood [Wooler, Northumberland]

A private letter detailing her religious experiences recently. She feels as they both do that this is a time of disintegration affecting not only institutions but families. In her own case there have been 'differences and some estrangement, things which have saddened my heart'. After a great struggle in which she was brought very low, she has been enabled to reach 'this higher faith tower'. She had learnt much from reading about Catherine of Siena's life: she was a great peacemaker.

Mr Allen's last letter to her was 'full of encouragement and joy'.
