Josephine Butler to Mrs Clark

Scope and Content

Written from 2 Victoria Villas, Wooler, Northumberland.

Writing to her in absence of Mary Priestman to acknowledge the gift of £50, which MP had sent to Coutts bank for her. She was thankful for the advance as recently she had had a very bad break down and had to have a nurse. She had hoped to be useful to the cause by keeping up her correspondence. She still has many letters from abroad asking advice about their widely extended work and she answers what she can. 'I have no secretary but I have an excellent nurse Mary Cockburn'.
