Administrative / Biographical History

'50 Great Marlborough St' - Address of the central office of the National Association central body of the Society for Repeal of the CD Acts

'Please to let the £5 to Liverpool Election Committee stand' - The original document setting up the 'Electoral League' was drawn up by Ewing Whittle MD 8 Jun 1872 with the aim of organising support in each Borough for candidates who would advocate the Society's views. It was endorsed by the Committee of the LNA who agreed that they would be financially responsible for the salary of a special election agent. They appealed for contributions to a special fund for this purpose. See letter of JB to Mr Clark (of Newcastle) 6 Jul 1872
