Josephine Butler to 'Dear Friend' [Miss Priestman]

Scope and Content

Written from Liverpool. Thanks her for all her kindness about Charles [see JB's letter of 15 Jun to Miss Priestman] and only regrets that she was involved in a scene with Dr Percival [the headmaster] [the doctor had advised that Charles should go home and Charles thought the matter had been arranged by the doctor with the school authorities, but it had not. Hence the Headmaster's anger though JB let out that the HM hated her because of her views and the work she did]. In the end however the boy was to come home the following day.
