Josephine Butler to [Miss Forsaith]

Scope and Content

Photocopy of a letter. Written from [Wooler, Northumberland]

She rejoices to hear of the approach of the Pentecostal wave and only hopes it will reach the Border Country. She has just received surprising news from Mme. Pieczynska that 'there are remarkable signs abroad of a longing...for a sight of the face of the real Christ.' She than goes on to describe the Anarchists who are refugees in Geneva, constantly expelled, constantly coming back. One of them has written a New Year's number for his paper containing a 'Life of Christ'. Large and illustrated. A detailed description follows. It ends with an appeal from this Anarchist to Anarchists.
