Josephine Butler to Stanley Butler

Scope and Content

Photocopy of letter. Written from Lausanne

Approves of the suggestion of going to the Isle of Wight for a holiday as it would be easy for her to go there to see them. Switzerland, though wonderful, had sad memories for her. She is sending them £60 to help with their holidays wherever they go. Asks them not to mention this to Aunt Emmy; she feels deeply for her needs 'but I did not make a sacrifice for Mr T[homas] which I regret now'. Glad to hear that George is going to stay with them and hopes that when they are together the humorous side of things will be to the fore. 'It does one so much good to laugh. There is no better tonic'.
