'Miss Rye, the emigration lady' - From 1868 onwards Maria Rye turned her attention to the emigration and welfare of destitute children - she herself escorted each batch of girls (they went mostly to Canada or New Zealand) and supervised their placing in suitable homes. JB when engaged in Rescue work in Liverpool found it a useful aid
