Under the name of Basutoland a British Protectorate from 1868. It was never part of the Republic of South Africa and achieved self-government in 1965 and independence within the Commonwealth as the Kingdom of Lesotho in 1966. JB asks him if he would 'send me some sort of a public word of sympathy to be read at our great gathering in London in June'.
