Administrative / Biographical History

Postmark 6 Oct 1885. 'The 'Christian' has printed 3000 of my letter because so many people have asked for it, he will send a 1000 to you.' The 'Christian' (full title 'Christian Commonwealth') was a religious paper run by Mr Morgan and Mr Scott. In 1902 JB wrote in a letter that old Mr Morgan 'who is exactly my age' has been travelling for several years in India and Europe, and has left the 'Christian' to his partner, Mr Scott. 'Also Mr Hughes is printing as a leaflet an article I wrote for him in the 'Methodist Times'. It is on Women's Suffrage of Repeal.' This more than proves JB's view of how essential woman suffrage was if women were to succeed in any of the causes so many had at heart. As she says here: 'I cannot be any party any longer to separating our questions. Events are so forcing them into one focus.' It was only lack of time and strength that prevented her from doing more for the suffrage cause. (See also letter of 17 Aug 1885 'JB to Dear Friends') Biog: Mr Hugh Price Hughes.
