Written from Liverpool. Regrets he will not be able to attend the Conference on the 26th in Westminster. Approves of his proposal re the securing of speakers and the limitation of their calls. Thinks he should warn him that Mrs Butler may not be able to attend the Sheffield meeting on 16 Nov as she has scarcely left her bed since she returned from Chatham.

This was the 2nd 'business meeting' called by Henry Wilson. The 1st was held 29 Jul, with one or two representations from each of the large Repeal organisations. The 2nd meeting was asked to consider (1) the alterations and additions made to the Manifesto; and (2) means by which more speakers are to be secured for their platforms.

This referred to Josephine Butler's journey to Chatham for the annual meeting of the Ladies' National Association held there on 18 Oct.
