A flu epidemic is raging and she preaches very effectively on the importance of having a positive attitude when sick: 'what the mind dwells on with consternation or anxiety very quickly becomes a reality to the body'. This is becoming known to the more enlightened of the medical profession. Unfortunately both Aunt Emmy and Aunt Hatty have a tendency always to expect the worst. So she begs her son never to anticipate evil or to dwell too much on calamity.

'Aunt Emmy' is Mrs Thomas, Josephine Butler's sister.

Conrad was the 4th son of Tell and Hatty Meuricoffre who died in 1892.
