The letters comprise:

nos 17-44: 1 Jan 1875 to Mr Stansfeld from the Antibes [Part of a diary written at intervals at Antibes]

nos 44-53: 7 Feb 1875 to Mr Edmondson from Neuchatel

nos 53-66: 13 Feb 1875 to Mr Edmondson from Hotel Wagram, Paris

nos 67-79: 17 Feb 1875 to Mr Edmondson from Paris

Copy of letter from JB to Mr Stansfeld Paris 20-22 Dec 1874

'I will continue my story from Thursday where I left off' (p 1). 20 Dec was a Sunday so Thursday was the 17th. See letter with 'to Mr Stansfeld 14 Dec 1874' in JB's writing which means that it was begun on the 14th and ended on the 17th

'M Rogerson who was a neighbour of ours at Dilston' (p 1). The Grey family consisting of John and Hannah with 3 sons and 7 daughters moved to Dilston from Milfield in 1835. JB was then 7 years old

'I left George and Stanley to amuse each other' (p 5). These were JB's two elder sons, now grown up born respectively 1852 and 1854. Their pet names in the family were respectively 'The Goat' and 'Cat' (or 'Catty')
