'Mr Stansfeld writes that he has to be in the House from 12.30 to six on Miss Jex Blake's Bill which he has taken charge of and must watch over'

In 1874 and 1875 Cowper-Temple's Enabling (DNB (Sophia Jex Blake)) Bill was defeated, but in 1876 another was introduced and became law
'he [Mr Stansfeld] wants to come to my meeting as he has followed all my Continental ideas'
This was a small informal gathering of those who had financed the journey in which she reported her experiences. It preceded the full meeting of the National Association.
