Josephine Butler in Neuchatel to Mrs McLaren

Scope and Content

Thanks her for the gift to the Cause through Mr McLaren buying the ring. Thinks now would be a good time to sell the ottoman which Harriet Martineau gave them, 'When so much interest is excited by her death, and her biography.' They must make efforts to get funds even though times are bad. Thanks her friend for her kindness to their Charlie [youngest son]

Date: 11 Jul [1876]. 'Harriet Martineau' died 27 Jun 1876.
