Minutes of yearly meeting of the Society of Friends 1875 from Mr Edmondson. Minutes of the 'Meeting for Sufferings'. Were read respecting the CD Acts stating that a petition had been presented to the House of Commons against the Acts through J Whitwell Pease on the 15th of 2 months last. John Bright protested about the agitation and publicity given to this question which 'had done more to spread the knowledge of evil and pollute the minds of young people...than anything that had happened within his knowledge'. He was not in favour of the Acts, he merely detested the way the question had been handled.
