Administrative / Biographical History

'We had an excellent meeting.' 'I must ask you kindly to let me have £1.2.6, which is what I have spent for the Southampton meeting.' This was a meeting of the LNA held in Southampton, one of the subjected towns. 'I start on Tuesday early for Neuchâtel.' This was for the International Federation meeting held that year at Neuchâtel, opening on 19 Sep (Tuesday). This gives us the probable date for the letter as if JB left on the Tuesday for Neuchâtel it must have been the week before the Conference, that is the 12th. Mr Lynn was the Rev TH Lynn who worked for the Cause. (The Shield records that on 16 Feb 1882 Rev TH Lynn addressed a meeting of men at Canterbury on the CD Acts, and that the chair was taken by TM Cowper of the Rescue Society.) (Shield, 25 Feb 1882, p.37) Biog: Mrs Steward; Mrs Chant; Rev TH Lynn.
