Josephine Butler to Mrs Fawcett

Scope and Content

Written from Ewart Park, Wooler, Northumberland.

Thanks her for her kindness in writing to some newspapers to ask the Editors to review her little book. ['Native races and the War 1900']. She thinks people are beginning to think more seriously about the treatment of natives and cites some which seem not to be just to the natives. The sentence of seven years penal servitude by British law imposed on a Boer for shooting a native dead because he did not drive his oxen fast enough has struck consternation into the Boer mind.
