PS to Monod's letter:

'Miss Louisa Appia is come back to Paris, but I have not seen her yet'

George Appia was a pastor of the ancient Waldensee in church in Italy who lived with his sister, Miss Louisa Appia. In a letter from JB to Stansfeld dated 20-22 Dec 1874 she describes them as 'Italians who have only come a short time ago to live in Paris'. Also in letter to Hatty (sister) she speaks of Miss Appia the Italian lady who has take up the cause so warmly (See letter of 19 Feb 1875)

Date: As we see from JB's letter to Hatty, 19 Feb 1875 the Appias only migrated to Paris at the end of 1874, and M Monod in his letter says he has not yet seen Miss Appia. It was therefore written c Jan 1875

Biog: Gabriel Monod (1844-1912); Miss Louisa Appia
