About the case of Adeline Tanner an innocent girl who came up to London as was taken to Brussels to be used in a high-class brothel. Was then found to be physically incapable of intercourse and finally returned to England. Thinks prosecution of several of the persons concerned would be successful.

The new Foreign Secretary Lord Granville': Gladstone's second cabinet was formed in Apr 1880. Earl Granville was appointed Foreign Secretary in this. Date of letter refers to the new Foreign Secretary Lord Granville. He was appointed to Gladstone's second Cabinet formed in 1880. In the letter JB says: p.1 'I shall have to call the Committee of the Federation together shortly.' p.6 'We hope the meeting we are to have here on the 10th' [Sat] p.7 'I am afraid I cannot manage to have Mr Splingard at our next committee meeting unless it could be fixed for the forenoon of Monday the 10th at some time between 9-10.' 10 Apr 1880 is ruled out because on that date JB was present at Paris: '10 Apr: great meeting in Paris, 3,500 present, Mrs Butler, Prof. Stuart and Mr B Scott among the speakers.' RR 379 and Shield 17 Apr, p.56. A possible date might be 10 May 1880, which was a Monday.
