Written from Liverpool. Wants to know by return whether her friend has asked her son Charlie [see note] to tea on Tuesday. If so can she postpone it as she cannot get to Bristol that day before 8. So it will have to be Wednesday or Thursday. Also may she invite her sister Mrs Thomas who lives near Gloucester, to a big tea party before the Meeting.

'Charlie to tea'
Charlie was then at Clifton College. See note on Charlie 4 Jul 1874
'The big meeting in Colston Hall'
Held at Bristol Thursday 15 Oct 1874. This dates the letter to 10 Oct 1874. See note on 'a special meeting' in letter from JB to Miss Priestman 20 Aug
'my youngest sister Mrs Thomas'
This was Emily (b 1836). She was married three times: 1. de Pledge; 2. Bolton; 3. Thomas and was at the time of this letter a widow for the third time. Her daughter Rhoda by her second husband married Stanley in 1886, second son of JB
'my dear sister Hatty'
This was Harriet Meuricoffre married to a Swiss banker with a house in Naples, JB's favourite sister
'may I ask her [Mrs Thomas] to the big tea and evening meeting on Wednesday'
JB also refers to our 'big tea party on Wednesday' to which she suggested Charlie could be invited. See above the big meeting in Colston Hall was Thursday 15 Oct. It looks as if JB had got confused in the day as the date 15 Oct is verified in print and that was a Thursday
