Arthur Bolton

Account by his son, ARC Bolton, in his book 'The Bolton family from Northumberland and its connections : a record of kinship' in 1971 pp 19-20 (The Women's Library holds a copy)

'My father, Arthur William Bolton, was only three when his father, Jasper, died. Emily Georgina Bolton was left a widow with Jasper's five children and the three De Pledge children. She came to England but I do not know where she settled or when and where she met her 3rd husband, FW Thomas. I believe my father's youth was unsettled on account of his mother's preoccupations...Fortunately he was clever and passed into Keyham Naval Engineering College and then entered the Royal Navy'
