'I am glad to believe that the meeting at Cannon St Hotel in London will prove a success'
A Conference of representative and influential friends of Repeal from all parts of the Kingdom was held at Cannon St Hotel on 4 May 1875 to consider the Aldershot Case. (For details of this case see note letter of 3 Apr 1875 JB to Dr Carter)
The Chairman (W Shaen) gave the facts of the case which was followed by the Rev George Butler reading a statement that his wife received from Mrs Percy's daughter Jane in a quiet chat at the Butler's home. The Rev George commented on the girl's statement and then proposed a resolution condemning afresh the CD Acts. (The police had acted within their legal rights therefore the only policy the meeting could pursue was a further attack on the CD Acts)
