Written from Ewart Park, Wooler, Northumberland. No year but refers to her son recovering after accident which was in 1894, and to Mrs Smyttan before she died in Sep 1895

'I am to take my little grandchildren and their nurse to my house at Balham'

ie Little Josephine and Bob, children of Stanley and Rhoda Butler, so she will not be able to visit.

'Mr Watts RA ... has been begging me to come to London for a week in Oct in order that he may make a portrait of me for the nation!' (See letter dated 31 Aug 1894 Josephine Butler to Rhoda)

'I am in the midst of that poor promised book' 'Personal reminiscences of a Great Crusade' (See note with letter dated 29 Sep 1894 Josephine Butler to Miss Mary Priestman)

Her sister (Mrs Smyttan) can now 'neither read, not write, nor sew'
