Josephine Butler to Mr Maurice Gregory

Written from Hotel Bernerhof, Berne. No year but reference to Federation meetings in London which took place that year and to son Charles's wedding the previous year.

Maurice Gregory was an American Quaker who had done much work for the Federation in India and Africa. Asking him if he could help with giving any introductions to her son Charles and his wife now living in St Ives, Cornwall. Does he know any 'Friends' in those parts? Told him she did not attend any meetings in London [International Federation Conference] but 'saw personally a great number of the foreign delegates and had some interesting conversation with them.

'Though I did not attend any meetings in London except my own LNA annual meeting'. In connection with the Congress the LNA held its 29th anniversary meeting at Exeter Hall the evening of Thursday Jul 14. Mrs Josephine Butler ... occupied the chair, but her voice and strength would not permit of her making a speech
