Scope and Content

Written from Newcastle. No date but reference to Finland gives the year 1899, Mar because of later letter of 28 Mar addressed from Wooler

Her son George is planning to move her to the Cottage Hotel, Wooler, not Ewart as the family are still disorganised by illness, very distressed by the news from Finland [Russia abrogated Finland's constitution in 1899] she quotes a broken hearted letter from a Finnish lady.

Administrative / Biographical History

Date: JB is in Wooler on 28 Mar 1899 because of letter from Wooler with that. Therefore date of move must be previous Tues. 21st and letter written on Saturday before the move is Mar 18.

Wooler is the village close by Ewart Park when her son George lived with his family.

'My heart is sorely troubled about Finland. The Feb Manifesto [15 Feb 1899] virtually abrogated the legislative power of the Finnish Diet. (See letter of 30 Mar 1899 JB to Rhoda and 28 Mar 1899 JB to Mr Gregory.)
