Josephine Butler to Henry Wilson

Scope and Content

Written from Liverpool. Decided now to go to Rothbury for 3 weeks instead of the Continent. Expenses have been heavy during her illness. 'he [George] is deeply thankful for the sum of money given to me for health'. This money was raised by friends of Josephine Butler after her breakdown in the spring of 1875 to enable her to go away on holiday. Views of Dr Carter (who attended her in her recent illness) on 'Lock' hospitals. Still 'awful pain to write'
