Administrative / Biographical History
'I wanted to try and give you an idea of Beatrice Thomasson'. The Thomassons, old friends, were staying at Cannes at the same time as Mr and Mrs Butler. In her letter of 17 Feb 1889 she describes a visit paid to them at their hotel the day before their departure for Mentone. 'Beatrice [their daughter] had a most lovely costume on which I must describe a part to Rhoda'. This JB does in this letter of 29 Mar with sketches of the dresses she describes. 'Appensell' was famous for its embroideries. It is a town in Switzerland in the centre of the same name. Biog: The Thomassons.
