Josephine Butler to Miss Forsaith

Scope and Content

Photocopy of letter. Written from [Cheltenham].

She is very concerned about the differences that have arisen between the British Committee and M. Minod, but she thinks it will end 'as a mere little family misunderstanding which will be cleared up, and will go no further into the public.' Part of the cause of this is the lack of knowledge English people have of foreign countries and their governments; for instance they have no idea the tremendous power the State had in a country like France to interfere with and enquire into the private affairs of its citizens.
