Written from The Lodge. He has just read No.1 of the Enquirer of which Dr C[arter] had kindly sent him a proof copy but he has read Drysdale's article with 'positive consternation'. Quotes from several paragraphs with disgust; then says 'I cannot imagine why you have felt bound to accept this article at any rate in its present shape'.

I have this morning read No 1 of the 'Enquirer'
This was a monthly medical journal issued by the National Medical Association to promote the repeal of the CD Acts in opposition to the medical 'establishment' who upheld the Acts as a necessary means for reducing the disease. Drs Carter, Nevins and Bell-Taylor were three of the leading medical men in favour of Repeal and were instrumental in starting the periodical. The first issue appeared Mar 1875
