Josephine Butler to [Miss Priestman]

Scope and Content

Written from Winchester (dictated). Makes suggestions for keeping in touch with all their repeal friends by means of a lithographed circular to all their members; part could be a report of facts, another part opinions and an appeal to action. Also suggests subscribing for twenty or fifty copies of the Indian Purity Trumpet, edited by WJ Gladwin, Bombay, which advocates their cause, and sending some of their friends each month. Has had a long letter from a lady in New Zealand telling of the progress made by their enemies and asking for their help and sympathy. Perhaps a group of workers at Bristol might take part of this work on themselves, acting as an auxiliary of the Committee of the Federation.
