She is alone at the moment as Charles is paying another visit to some friends. Is not sure where some of the books he asks for are stored: thinks they had better wait until George returns in Apr.
'a suggestion [from Cardinal Vaughan] that I should write personally to the Pope'
This was Leo XIII (1877-1903). (See note for letter dated 18 Jan 1895 Josephine Butler to Miss Priestman)
She has found it a difficult thing to do, but has finished and thinks 'It was a very moving letter!' The Cardinal also wants 'a condensed statistical statement of the hygienic failure of the Regulation in many different Countries backed by the Authority'. The cardinal begs that all this may be kept entirely private at least until he 'attains a result'.
'Vaughan asked Dr Agnes McLaren to supplement what she had done among the French bishops'
For further results of Dr McLaren's activities see letter of Mar 1895 from Josephine Butler to [Rhoda].
