Josephine Butler to Miss Forsaith

Scope and Content

Photocopy of letter. Written from Greenmount, Cleeve Hill, Cheltenham.

At the moment she dreads leaving the quiet retreat to return to town life. But she has now got over her frightful illness [see letter of 25 Jun] though she is still affected by a kind of paralysis down one side and has to write all her letters lying down. On looking back over her life she sees that her whole life has been a miracle. She came into the world prematurely, was difficult to rear and when she started the crusade was really weak. But 'out of weakness I was made strong' in the most wonderful manner.

Mr Stuart told me about Mme Avril's wonderful canvassing of the doctors of France. Stanley and his whole family are coming to see me in Sep to consult as to what is to be done with me.
