Photocopy of letter. Written from Highcliffe, Christchurch. She thanks him and Mrs Butler for sending her the most interesting papers and also her 'Life of Oberlin'. She refers to Josephine's life of Catherine of Siena which she thought 'quite perfect'. Hopes they will be able to visit her at Highcliffe when she goes there in May next year. She would much like to see Winchester again.

'Catherine of Siena', by Josephine Butler, 1879. '... High cliffe ... though a great contrast to Ford'. Ford Castle, Northumberland, was one of the seats of the Waterfords. 'I should much like to see Winchester again'. In 1882 Gladstone offered George Butler a canonry at Winchester which was accepted with pleasure and towards the end of that year the Butlers were installed in a house of antiquity such as one finds in English Cathedral closes.
