Monsieur Humbert was a close friend and indefatigable worker for the cause on the Continent. He visited Paris when JB was there on her first crusade the winter of 1874/5 with the formation of the British, Continental and General Federation in 1875, M Humbert was appointed General Secretary of the Continental Branch

Date - This letter may date from the letter of JB to her husband dated 13 Feb 1875 when M Humbert came to Paris and was shocked by the attitude of the average Frenchman to the Police des Moeurs making him exclaim 'Ah! c'est un dur croisade'
