Scope and Content

Circular Letter. Mr Banks addressed to all friends interested in Repeal. Inviting them to attend the Conference referred to in the printed circular enclosed. They hope to get together five to six hundred repealers who live in London to spur them on to do more than they have done yet and also to checkmate the efforts of those who wish to put London under the Acts because some of its streets are disorderly.[printed circular not enclosed]

Administrative / Biographical History

'The Conference referred to in the printed Circular enclosed' 14 Dec 1882: Conference of Repealers held at the Westminster Palace Hotel (RR 431). At the meeting James Stansfeld presided. He said they had been called together to consider the situation created by the Majority Report of the Select Committee of the House of Commons. The Report was issued 1 Aug 1882.
