Date: 'Have you seen a very good report in a Scarboro' paper of our meeting there' - 17 Apr 1873 Meeting at Scarboro' (Reprint of Mrs Butler's speech) 'Shield' 3 May p 139. (Rough Record 233). This would date the letter shortly after this.

'George has had a nice response from most of the clergy he wrote to about getting up the Clergy Memorial' - 20 May 1873 Memorial to Mr Gladstone from 1,500 of Clergy of Church of England. (Rough Record 240)
